I have been wondering a lot lately - for obvious reasons - about what the future holds for Caleb. Most often as we sit together and he is nursing, I look at him and I wonder...
- I wonder what kind of boy he'll become
- I wonder what kind of man he'll become
- I wonder if he'll have the trademark sarcastic humor that runs in my family.
- I wonder if he'll be a good boy
- I wonder how he'll do in school
- I wonder who he will marry
- I wonder if he's going to wear ridiculous clothes that will frustrate me when he's a teenager.
Long before I had Caleb, I've always loved Philippians 2:5-11 -
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
But one day, as I sat wondering, this came to mind - that Jesus - who is God, became FULLY human. Which means that Mary sat nursing him, just like I am Caleb, and he woke up throughout the night, just like any baby - even though he was FULLY God at that same time. It's just mind blowing.
So yesterday, in the Easter service, my friend Mauricio sang a solo of the song 'Mary did you know'; it made tears come to my eyes as it articulated all of these thoughts much better than I had. Here are the lyrics:
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know,
that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered,
will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know,
that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby,
you've kissed the face of God.
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know,
that your baby boy is heaven's perfect lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding, is the great I AM.
Happy Easter (a day late) - every day is a good day to remember the resurrection of the Lord!

Random-ness
Here are random thoughts about my new world of motherhood:
- I have gone through several days without getting peed on. This is an accomplishment
- Caleb knows when I lay down to sleep when he is sleeping and chooses those times to wake up again.
- spit-up gets everywhere, I have adjusted quickly to having it on my clothes
-breastfeeding is going much better - YAY, and Caleb is gaining weight nicely (9 lbs!) and peeing and pooping as he should - so that's all good. We have actually stopped the night-time bottle-feedings and gone only to boob. This is good.
- I am adjusting to less sleep, although every 3-4 days I'll have a slight meltdown and get emotional from being tired. I have also been getting sick - last weekend I had pinkeye and now I'm getting a sore throat, I never get sick, so I'm attributing this to less sleep.
- we bought a swing, it is wonderful and is helping us to put Caleb to sleep at night.
- my baby is obscenely cute, I'm accepting this - although it's tough ;)
- We are eating out more, cooking is tricky, but grocery shopping PLUS cooking is nearly impossible.
- I now watch WAY too much TV. Shows that I watch now include: CSI-NY, Cold Case. I watch more episodes of What Not to Wear (i love this show). These are in addition to what Iu already watched. I also know that there is hardly anything on in the middle of the night besides cartoons on Cartoon Network, Cops, and some cop-dramas if i'm lucky.
- Caleb is getting slightly more alert, and started smiling some. He has laughed a couple times...so cute!
- When I'm tired and frustrated, I have to remind myself not to take it out on Alex...it's not his fault and he's my partner in this.
- There are TONS of dresses and other non-onesie outfits for newborn girls and nothing like that for boys. This annoys me.
-Caleb went to church for the first time last week - it was great!
